For Component 3, your group will create one shared visual map or flow diagram that shows how your commodity moved through global systems of production, trade, and power.

Your map must visually represent:

Production regions (where the commodity was grown/extracted)
Labor systems (who did the work and under what conditions)
Trade routes (how it moved around the world)
Imperial or corporate power (who controlled the system)
Sites of coercion or extraction (where violence or exploitation occurred)

Digital tools (Canva, Google Drawings, PowerPoint, etc.)
Hand-drawn poster (photographed for submission)
Any visual format that clearly shows the connections

Where was your commodity originally produced? How did production locations change over time?

Example: Caribbean islands → Brazil → Southeast Asia; specific plantations, mines, or extraction sites

⚒️ Labor Systems

What labor systems were used? Who did the work?

Example: Enslaved Africans in Caribbean; indentured Indians in Fiji; contract workers in Hawaii

🚢 Trade Routes

How did your commodity move around the world? What were the major trade routes?

Example: Caribbean → London → manufacturing centers → global markets; specific ports and shipping companies

🏛️ Imperial & Corporate Power

Which empires, states, or corporations controlled the system? How did they exercise power?

Example: British East India Company; Dutch colonial administration; United Fruit Company; British Empire

⚡ Sites of Coercion & Extraction

Where did violence, exploitation, or coercion occur? What forms did it take?

Example: Slave plantations in Jamaica; Belgian Congo rubber extraction; banana massacres in Colombia
